APPENDIX

The appendix is an organ with no known function. It projects from the rounded end of the large intestine and occasionally, can trap materials passing through the digestive tract. If the appendix is inflamed, it is often surgically removed to prevent it from rupturing and spreading infection to the rest of the abdominal cavity.
